As well as being Consultant in Rheumatology and Sport & Exercise Medicine at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, Roger is also:

  • Consultant to the Olympic Medical Institute, Northwick Park Hospital
  • Medical Advisor to Dance UK
  • Medical Director of the Motion Analysis Lab, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital

Dr Wolman was the first doctor to be appointed to the British Olympic Medical Centre when it opened in 1987. He was also the first Doctor to be appointed as a Consultant in Sports Medicine in the NHS in 1994.

Dr Wolman has a special interest in the management of sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems in elite athletes as well as in the general population. He has particular interest in bone stress injuries and runs the Athletes Bone Clinic at the Olympic Medical Institute. He also has a particular interest in Osteoporosis and the bone problems encountered by female athletes.

He has a special interest in Dancers having worked with several dance companies including the Royal Ballet, English National Ballet. Birmingham Royal Ballet and Rambert Dance Company.

Roger also has a major interest in Arthritis and Back Pain. He strongly believes in holistic management, making use of both Conventional and Complimentary Medicine. He provides advice on exercise prescription in the treatment of these conditions and also advises on exercise for health promotion.

Dr Speed plays a significant role in the care of Olympic and other elite athletes. She has a special expertise in the management of sporting and non-sporting musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain syndromes plus a specialist interest in arthritis and in exercise medicine. She has a special interest in tendon and other soft tissue injuries and in diagnostic ultrasound. She applies advanced diagnostic techniques, in particular imaging and biomechanical assessments, in the evaluation of medical complaints. She is widely published and is the author of textbooks on soft tissue and sports injuries.

Dr Speed also utilises therapies including various injection therapies, extracorporeal shock wave therapy and forms of exercise and rehabilitation in managing problems. She also has a background in exercise physiology and has an Exercise Prescription Clinic for the development of customised exercise and or training programmes to suit all types of individual, from the sedentary to the fit athlete.
